The Federal Wildlife Officers Association (FWOA) in conjunction with the North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers Association (NAWEOA) sponsors an annual 5K run/walk to memorialize wildlife officers who have given their life in the line of duty. The run/walk is held each year during the NAWEOA annual conference. Anyone interested in raising money for a good cause is welcome to join us!
The run/walk recognizes all wildlife officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice. A t-shirt is given to each participant in the event that recognizes all fallen officers going back to 1980, with their names, jurisdiction and date of death, as well as the names of all sponsor associations, individuals and corporations.
A meal is served at the completion of the event and awards are given to the top finishers in many categories. Prizes are also given out randomly from names drawn from a hat. Everyone who registers for the event has his/her name placed into the drawing. FWOA has been in contact with both Remington Arms and GLOCK to have firearms donated for the 2007 NAWEOA conference to be held in Minnesota. All proceeds raised through the event are donated to the North American Game Warden Museum.
The annual 5K run/walk started in Omaha in 2001. Since that time, FWOA, in cooperation with the many participants, officer associations, concerned individuals and corporate sponsors, such as Remington Arms and Cabela's have raised over $20,000 for the Game Warden Museum. If you want to be a part of something special and help a great cause, please sign up and join us for the 5K run/walk. You can register at the same time you register for the conference.
If you are planning on attending a NAWEOA conference and have questions about the event or you would like to obtain a commemorative t-shirt, please contact coordinator Mark Webb at mark_webb@fws.gov or call him at (402) 423-0062.
